Behind the Art
Katharina McKee is a contemporary artist based near Hannover, Germany, whose work explores the space between what we see and what we feel.
At the heart of her artistic practice is a fascination with people — their individuality, emotions, contradictions and stories. Through expressive portraiture, colour and a variety of media, she seeks to capture more than outward appearance. Her work is about presence, vulnerability and strength, and about those moments when an image reveals something that words cannot express.
Her artistic perspective has been shaped by personal experiences, encounters and a life connected to Germany, Belgium and Ireland. Travel, music, photography, fashion and the work of other artists continue to influence her visual language.
McKee is particularly drawn to strong and distinctive personalities — people who challenge expectations and have the courage to be themselves. This is especially reflected in her Rebel Series, where individuality and freedom become central themes.
Her work has been presented in exhibitions in Germany and internationally and has been featured in international art publications.
For Katharina McKee, art is not about providing answers. It is about creating a moment of connection — between the artwork, the artist and the person standing in front of it.
Art begins where words fall silent.
